Sheffield City Council has many training courses for people who work in social care in the independent, private and voluntary sector. 

Your manager or training manager may need to ask for a Go Learn account if your organisation hasn’t accessed Go Learn before.

Sheffield College provides qualifications for young people and adults. They have many specialist health and social care courses. They work with care and health providers across the region, to help train future staff and upskill existing staff.

This experiential training from Enrichment for the Elderly puts you in the shoes of a person living with dementia so you can learn how to provide support.

St Luke’s Project ECHO

St Luke’s Project ECHO training is free of charge and is led by a specialist hub to many participant learning sites, such as care homes. Courses can include the Health Passport, NHS Screening and Electronic Assistive Technology. 

Participants share knowledge and expertise through virtual meetings. Together ECHO participants can talk about difficult cases and work out the best course of action.

E-Learning for Healthcare

A new e-learning resource has been launched by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) with the Royal Society of Public Health.

The course is for social care frontline workers in registered and unregistered services. The purpose is to help you recognise your role in public health and how it helps you improve care through Ten Tips. The ten areas include infection prevention control, mental health and wellbeing and healthy ageing.

Independent Domestic Abuse Service (IDAS)

IDAS provides training to those supporting people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence, including for older and disabled victims of domestic abuse. Some courses are CPD accredited.

Your employer can claim back funding for courses, qualifications and apprenticeships

Qualifications and apprenticeships that started before 31 March 2024

Your employer may be able to claim up to £2,035 per year towards the cost of your qualifications or apprenticeships that started on, or before, 31 March 2024 and are completed before 31 March 2025. This funding is towards listed qualifications.  

To receive this funding your employer must submit a declaration form before 28 February 2025, update the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set and send in their claim form to Skills for Care before 31 March 2025.

Qualifications and training courses from April 2024 to March 2025

Your employer may be able to claim funding towards the cost of your qualifications and training courses started, and paid for, between 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 (inclusive).  This funding is towards listed training courses and qualifications.  

Funding is for non-regulated care staff, including deputy and Care Quality Commission registered managers and agency staff.  

To qualify, your employer must provide an adult social care service, directly employ staff and complete the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set.

Disability Sheffield

Disability Sheffield provides free training for Individual Employers and Personal Assistants. This includes Moving and Handling, Essential Safeguarding, First Aid at Work and Medication Administration. You can browse courses and book your place on their Eventbrite page.
