Dementia Stars training
Dementia Stars training
More than 200 care professionals across Sheffield attended silver and gold Dementia Stars training between January and March 2025. The training was delivered by Enrichment for the Elderly. Opportunity Sheffield ran the course using UK Shared Prosperity Fund funding. The training was offered at different venues and times to enable as many care staff to attend as possible.
There are estimated to be around 7,000 people aged over 65 living with dementia in Sheffield. That amounts to about 7% aged 65 years and over in the city. There are also about 140 people aged under 65 in Sheffield with young onset dementia.
The training put care staff in the shoes of a person living with dementia.
Care staff who went on the Dementia Stars training said this about the course:
- “I have learnt what I could do better to make people with dementia live their lives to the best”
- “This is the best dementia training I have ever been on”
- “I have learnt how my practice may mean a person with dementia behaves in an aggressive way and what I can do to change that practice”
