About Carers Week

Carers Week raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges unpaid carers face and recognises the contribution carers make to families and communities. Carers Week also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. This year the theme is 'Caring About Equality', highlighting the inequalities faced by unpaid carers. Carers face a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, poor mental and physical health. Far too often, carers of all-ages miss out on opportunities in their education, careers, or personal lives, just because of their caring role.

Carers

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older.  According to Census 2021, there are more than 49,000 carers in Sheffield. This is about 9% of the local population.
